What We Learned This Week Literacy: In literacy this week, we completed some writing based on the many events we had this week.  We read a story called, Shi-Shi- Etko , who is an Indigenous girl preparing to go to residential school.  She prepares to go to school by making a memory bag. We discussed what would go into our memory bags, drew pictures of different items that would remind us of home that we would put in our memory bags, and then wrote a sentence about why we put in each item. Numeracy: In math this week, we focused on comparing and ordering numbers and discussed how we know that number is greater/less than using our knowledge and understanding of place value.  We reviewed the vocabulary and symbols we use, greater than, less than and equal to. Then the grade 2's practised with numbers to 1000 and the grade 3's practised with numbers to 10 000.   What We Learned This Week Literacy: In writing this week, students have been continuing to focus on their writing goal of making their writing INTERESTING to their reader. This week's focus was including adverbs in their sentences. Their super sentences should now include a noun, a verb, an adjective and an adverb.  What We Learned This Week Literacy: Writing:This week we focused on developing our writing stamina and creating our writing goals for the year. Together we created 2 writing goals, one to make our writing interesting and one to make it clear. To make our writing more interesting to our readers we have been learning about  nouns, verbs and adjectives. Students have been experimenting with stretching their sentences  to make super sentences by answering the questions: Who? What? Where? When? Why? How?  Numeracy:  This week in math, students have continued to learn about place value and representing numbers in different ways. Students have learned how to expand 3-digit and 4-digit numbers by applying their understanding of place value.  As part of our daily math routine, students have been engaging in math talks to develop their mental math strategies, mathematical vocabulary, as well as their ability to be efficient and flexible in their thinking. Scien...
